First Oil Shipment Arrives in Pakistan via Strait of Hormuz

First Oil Shipment Reaches Pakistan via Strait of Hormuz Amid Crisis

Pakistan has received its first oil shipment through the Strait of Hormuz since tensions disrupted maritime traffic in the region. The oil tanker MT Karachi successfully crossed the critical route and entered Pakistan’s maritime zone carrying a large consignment of crude oil.

The vessel departed from Das Island in the UAE on February 28 and is scheduled to berth at Karachi port. Officials confirmed that this marks the first successful Pakistani transit through the strait under current conflict conditions, offering relief amid fears of supply disruptions.

Special permission granted by the Iranian authorities

The tanker was able to pass through the sensitive waterway after receiving special clearance from Iranian authorities, allowing it to travel via Iranian territorial waters.

The Strait of Hormuz has remained highly volatile due to the ongoing regional conflict, with multiple attacks on vessels and severe restrictions on shipping activity. The special arrangement highlights the diplomatic coordination required to maintain energy supply routes during the crisis.

Pakistan Navy ensures safe passage

The Pakistan Navy provided full maritime security to the tanker throughout its journey, escorting it safely across the high-risk zone.

This effort is part of broader measures to secure Pakistan’s energy supply lines, as the country remains heavily dependent on oil imports routed through the Gulf. Ensuring safe transit has become a strategic priority amid rising geopolitical tensions.

Energy supply concerns begin to ease

The successful arrival of the shipment is expected to ease immediate concerns about fuel shortages in Pakistan. With a large portion of the country’s oil imports passing through the Strait of Hormuz, any prolonged disruption could significantly impact domestic fuel availability and prices.

Officials say continued coordination and secure shipping routes will be critical to maintaining stable energy supplies in the coming weeks.
