Pakistan’s Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has rejected circulating rumours about an increase in Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) prices, clarifying that no new price notification has been issued. The clarification came in an official statement released by OGRA spokesperson Imran Ghaznavi.
According to the regulator, LPG prices are formally notified once every month, with the new rates becoming effective from the first day of each month under the established pricing mechanism. Any claims about an unscheduled price increase were described as incorrect.
Consumers urged to report overcharging
OGRA advised consumers to ensure that LPG cylinders are sold strictly according to the officially notified prices. The regulator warned that some retailers may attempt to exploit market rumours by charging higher rates.
Authorities urged the public to report any cases of overcharging or price manipulation to the local district administration so that immediate action can be taken against violators.
Energy market concerns amid global tensions
The clarification comes at a time when global energy markets are experiencing volatility due to ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. The conflict has raised concerns about potential disruptions in oil and gas supply routes, particularly through the Strait of Hormuz, a key global energy shipping corridor.
Nearly 30% of the world’s seaborne oil trade passes through the Strait of Hormuz, and Pakistan relies heavily on this route for its imported energy supplies, including LNG shipments.
Government monitoring fuel prices
The government recently increased petrol and diesel prices by Rs55 per litre following rising global petroleum costs linked to the Middle East crisis. Officials have indicated that energy prices could face further pressure depending on international market developments.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has stated that the government will attempt to protect consumers from the full impact of global price increases, while also implementing measures to manage fuel demand and ensure energy supply stability.
