Pakistan Says It Gave “Immediate, Effective” Response to Unprovoked Afghan Taliban Firing Along Border

Pakistan Responds to Unprovoked Afghan Taliban Fire Along Border

Pakistan’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting said Afghan Taliban fighters opened unprovoked fire at multiple points along the Pakistan–Afghanistan border in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), prompting a swift response from Pakistani security forces. According to the statement, the firing was “miscalculated” by the Taliban and was met with an immediate and effective counteraction.

In a social-media post, the ministry said security forces were responding decisively in sectors including Chitral, Khyber, Mohmand, Kurram, and Bajaur. Early reports cited by officials claim heavy casualties on the Afghan side, with several Taliban posts and equipment destroyed during the exchange.

Government reiterates resolve to protect territory

The statement reaffirmed that Pakistan will take all necessary measures to safeguard its territorial integrity and protect the safety of its citizens. A government spokesperson for foreign media emphasised that no Pakistani posts were captured or damaged, countering claims to the contrary.

Political reaction and strong language

Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry criticised the Taliban’s actions and described their leadership as having a “guerrilla mindset”. He warned that Pakistan’s response would be “befitting” and cautioned against further incursions.

Officials also characterised the incident within the broader context of security pressures along the western border, which Islamabad says have been exacerbated by militant groups allegedly using Afghan territory as a sanctuary, a claim denied by the Taliban.

Border situation and wider context

The latest exchange followed recent reports of escalating tensions along the Durand Line, with both sides accusing each other of violating ceasefires and initiating fire. International news agencies note that clashes have punctuated the border in recent days, with conflicting casualty figures and claims from each side.

The situation remains fluid, and official statements emphasise priority on Pakistan’s national security while calling for respect for international boundary protocols.
